WHAT IS THE SURGE ARRESTER AND WHAT ARE THE VARIETIES?
The surge arrester the general name of the products providing the short-circuiting of the sudden over-currents that are inevitable to live in lightning event especially on the phases in a system.
The information that surge arresters transmit the extreme stresses to the ground is an information that is incompatible with reality.
Because the voltage is not transmitted from one place to another, it is the electromotive force which shows the potential difference between the two ends of the conductor.
The current is transmitted from one side to the other through the potential difference between the two ends of the conductor.
This makes it necessary to use surge arresters to prevent over-currents in the lightning process from being transmitted to the ground by means of the surge arrester to prevent the systems from being damaged by these currents.
Trimbox is used to prevent over-voltages.
This information is now rapidly entering training seminars and presentations by surge arresters and distributors. In our article, we explain basic information about what the surge arrester and its kinds is.
What Are the Types of Surge Arresters?
Surge arresters are available separately for high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage systems.
Low-voltage surge arresters are classified as B, C and D class between them.
B-class surge arrester, at the outermost point of construction, using the pre-counter, is the highest accuracy, the highest instantaneous over-current transmission capacity.
If the tension is less than 2.5 kV, (10/350us) can discharge the 50kA current once without problems.By mounting after the counter of the structure, by blocking the sudden over-currents that class B cannot pass through the system with more accurate protection, C-class surge arrester provides the flow to the ground.
If the tension is less than 1.5 kV, (8 / 20us) can discharge the 20kA current once without problems.
D-class surge arrester is preferred for more sensitive protection than class B and C surveillance by selecting the electronic product to be protected.
If the tension is less than 1kV, (8 / 20us) can discharge the 6kA current once without problems.
How to connect the surge arrester?
The surge arrester is connected in parallel in the systems.
Parallel cables up to 16-35 mm from the phase outputs are connected to the surge arrester phases.
In some surge arresters, a parallel cable is also connected from the common neutral cable of the system to the neutral input of the surge arresters.
Installation is completed by connecting the cable system taken from the last surge arrester earth ground to the ground line.
Surge arrester prices
Surge arresters are priced according to B, C and D class and their poles.
Of course, the brand also has a big share in the prices.
The B-class 4-pole surge arrester in a good mark, has a sales price of around 2500 TL and a cartridge price of around 500 TL.
The C-class 4-pole surge arrester in a good mark, has a sales price of around 700 TL and a cartridge price of around 200 TL.
The D-class 2-pole surge arrester in a good mark, has a sales price of around 300 TL and a cartridge price of around 100 TL.
